Connecting Nottingham Students
We provided superior connectivity to some newly converted student accommodation, ensuring everyone could be online at the same time.
We were contacted by the owner of an old mill in Nottingham city centre that had been converted into student accommodation. They wanted to provide the inhabitants with first-class connectivity, knowing that having that many people online at the same time isn’t something that standard equipment can handle.
Challenge: A large mill had been converted into student accommodation, and the owner needed to make sure all of the residents could get online at the same time, without a drop in speed or connectivity.
Our task was to ensure that each and every room had its own dedicated data outlet, and that the communal areas had the infrastructure needed for a robust CCTV system and reliable WiFi coverage.
In total, over the course of the 18-month project, we installed over 1,000 outlets, over 50 kilometres of Cat6 cabling and over 2 kilometres of fibre backbone cabling across the entire site. That’s over 30 miles of cabling!
Checking the connections of any installation is key to the success of a project, but one of this size requires careful consideration and scrupulous testing. Our engineers used the latest equipment from Fluke to certify the connectivity, ensuring each and every outlet can pass the data speeds required.
The client was so happy with our work that they asked us to also install the CCTV and the WiFi equipment too. At least we knew the cabling would be good enough!
Solution: We installed over 30 miles of high-quality cabling and over 1,000 data outlets throughout the large site, which we were then able to certify using state-of-the-art testing equipment.
