Building a cinema room within a dedicated area, like a basement, seems straightforward due to controlled lighting conditions—ideal for projection-based screen systems. However, what if we told you that building a cinematic haven in a light-filled room was entirely possible, even in a listed building?

The project involved working within a listed building while accommodating an open-plan staircase that consumed much of the rear wall. To complicate matters further, the client desired a complete Dolby ATMOS system, which necessitates a strategic placement of speakers.

However, at Sinema's, we're armed with a team of ingenious designers and engineers who thrive on thinking outside the box. We tackled the issue head-on by transforming the open staircase into a unique architectural feature—our own custom-made wall that seamlessly melded design with functionality.

Preserving Views, Embracing Light Control

The client's vision encompassed more than just cinematic immersion—it was about creating a multifunctional space. With views of the Trent River and a canal on either side, the challenge was clear: preserve these vistas while ensuring complete light control during movie time.

The solution? Elegant curtains that exuded luxury and offered impeccable acoustics when drawn, while still allowing natural light to flood the room when the cinema isn't in session. The result was an ingenious balance between function and aesthetics.
